While working on a news story in February 2001, Michelle got a lead she was not investigating, her own up-close look at skin cancer. At the time, she was in the office of Dr. Bruce Katz, a dermatologist working on a story about liposuction. The photographer that she was with asked the dermatologist about a bump on his face and then asked Michelle of a pore on her face. Dr. Katz got a magnifying glass and disclosed he wanted to ask Michelle about the pore. Two days later, a biopsy came. The pore was basal cell carcinoma. Therefore, Michelle was scheduled for a surgery to remove the cancer. The surgery took 8 hours and 27 stiches from plastic surgeon Michael Bruck.
