Raphael was born to his father and mother in Bedford Hills, New York, USA in 1977. He holds American nationality and grew up in Westchester County where his passion for weather began. He was always fascinated by Nor’easters and hurricanes. Raphael is the son of an American mother and a Brazilian father who moved to the USA in the ’60s. Raphael joined NBC 4 New York as an intern in 2007 and then moved to production and on-air roles. While there, he experienced and forecasted many extreme weather conditions. He also reported on the 2011 Halloween snowstorm that left Tri-state people without power and the Blizzard of 2016. Currently, Raphael is serving as a meteorologist for NBC 4 New York.
As a meteorologist, he covered Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and earned an Emmy. He was also part of the wall-to-wall Sandy coverage team that kept people updated and had his first Emmy on Hurricane Irene coverage. Furthermore, he frequently appears on MSNBC, The TODAY Show, NBC Nightly News, Early TODAY, Weekend TODAY, and CNBC World. Before NBC, Raphael taught English to children in school for two years and also worked as a store manager at Madison Ave.
