While at KETV, he co-produced a 30-minute severe weather safety and awareness program, “When the Siren Sounds”. The program won the Ak-Sar-Ben Gold Award presented by the Nebraska Broadcasters Association. He worked at KETV from June 1983 to August 1987.

After joining WGAl, Joe became one of the area’s favorite weathercasters through his accurate forecasts. In May 1984, Joe was awarded the Seal of Approval for Television Weathercasting and became a member of the American Meteorological Society. Since 1990, Je has been an Adjunct Professor at Millersville University where he taught for more than 20 years in the Department of Earth Sciences.

Nonetheless, Joe was Manheim Township High School Basketball Coach from July 1995 to July 2012.

In December 2011, Joe shared at the end of his broadcast that the doctor found a “spot” on his lung after his annual checkup was done. The doctors later began to refer to the sport as a tumor but did not know if it was cancer. Joe underwent a surgery that turned out not to be cancer.
