In May 2020, Paul and his cameraman Ian Smith attacked while covering the massive protest downtown by the arena. Ian was pulled down, kicked, and punched repeatedly and his camera was destroyed. Fortunately, another group of protestors came to their rescue and pulled them away from the attack, and saved their life. They were taken to Mercy for tests, where Paul was suffering some chest pain.
