Rob Stafford (Full name: Robert R. Stafford) is an American journalist and retired television anchor. He anchored at NBC5 WMAQ-TV 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts until December 23, 2022. Stafford joined WMAQ-TV in Chicago as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter on September 23, 2007. He was later promoted to the main anchor position in July 2009.
Previously, he worked at NBC’s Dateline NBC newsmagazine show as a Chicago-based correspondent for the newsmagazine program for 11 years. In 2006, Stafford was fired from Dateline NBC in a cost-cutting move. While at Dateline, he received two national news Emmy awards. Additionally, in 2000, he also won the Edward R. Murrow award for his Dateline investigation into racial profiling.

In 2017, Stafford was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, amyloidosis. His doctors diagnosed it early, and he underwent a bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy. The rare disease occurs when amyloid builds up in the organs.
Amyloid is an abnormal protein produced in the bone marrow and is deposited in any organ or tissue. Although Amyloidosis is a rare disorder, it is not a type of cancer and may be associated with certain blood cancers like multiple myeloma. Therefore, Stafford has not suffered from cancer before.
In August 2019, Stafford sued the sterilization solution company Sterigenics. His amyloidosis diagnosis showed that he was exposed to toxic levels of ethylene oxide from the company’s west suburban Willowbrook facility plant.
At that time, Stafford lived in Hinsdale and belonged to a sports club in Burr Ridge. The company’s sterilization process resulted in ethylene oxide emission, causing exposure in portions of Burr Ridge and Hinsdale. His lawsuit against the company sought more than $50,000 in damages.
