Jason Austell is an American journalist and anchor. Currently, he works at KUSI 2 as a Good Morning San Diego Weekend Anchor. Jason joined KUSI 2 in April 2017. Previously, he was working at KNSD/NBC 7. Later Jason joined XETV-TV/Channel 6 serving as the weekday evening anchor in July 2016.
Unfortunately, CW6 stopped its newscasts in March 2017 and he lost his job. However, KUSI-NEWS/Channel 9 recruited Jason to co-anchor its “Good Morning San Diego” weekend version with Elizabeth Alvarez from 6 to 11 a.m. He spent thousands of hours in the skies above San Diego which gave him a very unique perspective of the county.

In 1997, Jason served as a reporter and photographer on board which was San Diego’s first news helicopter to be equipped with a gyro-stabilized camera. The next decade, he was the “point man” for traffic and breaking news. Jason covered brush and structure fires, high-speed car chases, and rescues. He spent thousands of hours in the skies above San Diego which gave him a very unique perspective of the county.
